Bentonite Waterproofing System Hertfordshire
Introduction
Bower House, Hertfordshire / Failed Bentonite
Client: Private Householder
Principle: Steve Campbell Associates
Consultants: Phil Hewitt
Value £15,000
This building was built of Stepc blocks, then waterproofed with an external Bentonite waterproofing system. Water continued to penetrate after completion of the construction and internal fit out.
The External waterproofing was failing, Maclennan UK where consulted. External drainage was inspected along with the Bentonite Waterproofing Coating, it was decided that an effective internal as well as external waterproofing system would need to be put in place to stop the water ingress, this would produce a dry habitable internal living area.
Methodology
Steve Campbell Associates involved MacLennan who worked with Phil Hewitt Associates and agreed a design which would cause the least disruption to the client / owner. Most of the internal finishes and fittings had to be removed and the walls had Maclennan cavity drain membrane system installed.
Maclennan 8mm cavity drain membrane, drainage channels (sited at the wall floor junction) and the Hydrosump Pro pump where required to complete the internal waterproofing to conform to British Waterproofing standard BS8102.
Externally land drainage was upgraded combined with the external Bentonite waterproofing system.
