New Build Nursing Home, Salisbury

Waterproofing a new build nursing home.

Little Manor nursing home in Salisbury has been recently built to provide accommodation for up to 26 people some of whom are living with dementia. This nursing home has very high standards providing service users with a secure, relaxed and homely environment in which their care, wellbeing and comfort is of prime importance.

MacLennan were approached to come up with the design, supply and installation of waterproofing solutions for the new nursing home. Several areas of the new build needed to be considered including store room, plant room and bin room which were built underground, a retaining wall and lift pit and also a large deck area on the upper terrace.

Method

MacLennan’s experienced design team suggested to install Crystalcoat and a Cavity Drain system for double protection to all of the underground areas like the storeroom, plant room and the bin store. To protect the retaining wall the Crystalcoat and Cavity drain systems were installed along with a bunded channel and the lift pit was waterproofed with a Crystalcoat solution.

Before waterproofing the deck on the large upper terrace, all of the adjoining areas of the new build had to be covered for protection and the deck area thoroughly and carefully prepared. We then applied our state of the art, fully bonded Polyprufe waterproofing system to the deck area. The application of this system requires expert equipment and training to the staff, who carefully spayed it on to the deck area. The waterproof coat is fast curing and can take foot traffic soon after being applied. We then thoroughly spark tested the upper terrace to make sure an even coat has been applied and no water can get through the now protected deck.

Result

As a result the new nursing home has the best waterproofing solutions to all required areas straight from the start of life to the new build. The lift pit, the underground areas and the upper terrace are waterproofed to the highest British waterproofing standards.

MacLennan completed all works within the time frame and the budget. The Polyprufe system is guaranteed for 10 years. All of this work was backed by MacLennan’s full installation guarantee and PI cover on the design.
