The stadium concourse was waterproofed by a different company during construction with a liquid applied membrane. The detailing around the movement joints did not work due to excessive movement and incomplete and poor details. Water was running through the joins onto the area below.

MacLennan were employed by The Construction Company to work alongside the Wembley Stadium engineers to resolve waterproofing problems around the whole of the stadium.

A MacLennan surveyor visited the site and designed a suitable guaranteed waterproofing solution for the project.

Areas of the Stadium would need to be tented for the essential work to be carried out to this prestigious stadium.

Because of the Stadium’s busy calendar of events the work had to be carried out in between major sporting and entertainment events and so Maclennan had very strict timescales to adhere to, often in inclement weather conditions.

The MacLennan experience designed team proposed a system using a liquid waterproofing membrane material. The deck was coated with this material which cures to form a tough seamless rubber-like waterproof layer. All pipe penetrations were detailed in the same material. MacLennan completed the work to re-detail all of the waterproofing using this liquid applied membrane to the pre prepared surfaces around and over joins.


All work was carried out with in the tight time restraints and in budget.

The final outcome ensured a waterproof deck with a seamless watertight bond to the substrate. The whole contract was designed and carried out by MacLennan under their insurance cover and PI. The whole system was guaranteed by MacLennan.
