Specialised Pump Systems

Exciting update for our followers! 🏗️ We're currently engaged in a significant renovation project in the prestigious Notting Hill area of London. This project involves the careful excavation and underpinning of a mid-terrace property, ensuring structural integrity and longevity.

Our experienced surveyor has designed a bespoke waterproofing solution to address the unique challenges of this property. This solution includes the installation of three specialised pump systems:

Foul Pump: This system is crucial for managing wastewater and preventing any backflow issues, ensuring the property's sanitation remains uncompromised.

Cavity Drain Pump: Designed to handle any water ingress through the walls, this pump system works in conjunction with cavity drain membranes to channel water away from the property, maintaining a dry and habitable environment.

Surface Water Pump: Essential for managing rainwater and surface runoff, this pump prevents water accumulation around the property, protecting the foundation and surrounding areas from potential water damage.

These advanced systems are integral to our comprehensive waterproofing strategy, safeguarding the property against water ingress and enhancing its overall resilience. Stay tuned for more technical insights and updates on this exciting project! 🚧🔨

Dorset Radon Project

Lower Lane

We're excited to share the progress on our latest project in Dorset, which includes a new garage block and wine cellar. This project features a low retaining wall on one side and a spacious courtyard with perimeter retaining walls. Additionally, new buildings are being constructed on the north edge, with their rear walls serving as retaining walls for the garden.

Given the property's location in a high radon area, it is essential to protect the homeowners from potential harmful gases. To address this, we are installing a radon cavity membrane throughout the construction.

What is a Radon? Radon is an invisible, odourless radioactive gas that can seep into buildings from the ground. Prolonged exposure to high levels of radon can increase the risk of lung cancer. A radon membrane is a high-performance barrier designed to prevent radon gas from entering the building. These membranes are typically made from durable plastic and are installed as part of the building's foundation to ensure a continuous seal.

MacLennan take the Risk out of Waterproofing

Head of Retaining Wall

31 Chilbolton wall

A critical component of any new basement construction is the proper detailing of the head of retaining walls. This detail is often overlooked or improperly executed, leading to costly leaks and significant claims with warranty providers like NHBC.

During the design phase, our waterproofing experts meticulously inspect all areas requiring this detail to ensure full compliance with BS8102:2022 standards. You can rest assured that we assume complete design liability under our £10 million PI cover.

Including this detail at the design stage is essential. If neglected, it can have severe repercussions. Our experienced and certified surveyors will always incorporate this aspect into your quote.

Our skilled technicians have been diligently preparing the head of the retaining wall and applying our PolyM liquid membrane to guarantee no water ingress in this area.
