Gas Membrane

MacLennan design and install gas-proof basement waterproofing systems through installation of external-applied gas membrane systems, internal liquid roller or spray-applied gas membrane and radon barrier.

If you are building a basement, you are required to carry out site investigations that involves inspection for ground gases.

MacLennan together with our partners provides combined solutions for both waterproofing and gas protection.

The provision of a waterproof membrane to the outside of the basement of substructure in accordance with BS8102/2022 (‘Type A’ form of construction) can also be a gas membrane and external tanking, and waterproofing can be combined where required.

Internal cavity drain membrane systems can be detailed as gas membranes/Radon barriers when married up with suitable extraction or positive pressure systems.

Our systems include installation of external-applied gas membrane systems or internal liquid roller or spray-applied gas membrane and radon barrier systems.

Our internal cavity drain membrane systems can be detailed as gas membranes/Radon barriers when married up with suitable extraction or positive pressure systems.

Our gas membrane systems are guaranteed to prevent Radon, Methane, Carbon Dioxide and all other ground gases.

All work is independently tested and verified by a market leading gas remediation company

What are the main types of ground gas in the UK?

radon map

Radon

Radon is a naturally occurring radio-active gas associated with increased levels of cancer. As a tasteless and odorless gas, it is undetectable by human senses alone and is highly hazardous to human beings. Radon is the product of tiny particles of Uranium present in all rocks, bricks, soils, and concrete. As such, confined areas such as basements, below ground substructures, and attics have the potential to accumulate Radon Gas. Once detected in your home, it is relatively easy to remove.

High concentrates of Radon gas can significantly increase the risk of lung cancer, hence the requirement for an effective Radon gas barrier is of great importance

Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Carbon Dioxide; commonly referred to it’s periodic compound, CO2; is a toxic, asphyxiating gas. Its maximum permissible levels 0.5% by volume for long term exposure and 1.5% by volume for short term exposure.

Methane

Methane is a colorless, odorless, yet highly flammable gas. It forms an explosive mixture in the air at levels of 5-16% by volume.

Methane is a gas that naturally occurs from piles of peat in the agricultural industry but can also be a product of man-influenced activities such as landfilling. Typically, it’s the main component of this natural gas that is used to generate electricity and heat homes around the world.

Voc's

VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are compounds that naturally occur and easily become vapors or gases.
