Great fun talking all things waterproofing design on our first RIBA approved CPD’s this week. CPL Architecture and Savills L&P Ltd seemed very happy with the presentation, in fact, saying it was “Excellent!”. We are looking forward to continuing working with both of you in the future. We have a very busy time now for CPD’s (some with over 100 people attending). Let’s make the most of those double points!

Even though a huge amount of our business is in and around London, and a great many of our staff are London based, MacLennan headquarters are located on an idyllic mini-farm in the countryside. We work from converted barns which were earmarked for demolition for new houses 20 years ago but were rescued by Ian & Linda MacLennan and converted and conserved for use as our offices. Company director Ian MacLennan is passionate in regard to animals and the environment. Our little farm is filled with rescued chickens and includes Alpacas some of which are being bred to work as petting animals for children and adults with difficulties. We keep peacocks, geese, and until recently Donkeys and Goats. Ian is a beekeeper and we have thousands of honey bees in hives at the farm. The farm is landscaped to provide the right environment for bees and wildlife generally. Ian is also a keen scuba diver and a sea-loving sailor so sees first-hand the effects of plastic on our shores and the oceans so our Environmental goals are an utmost priority, shaping everyday decisions at MacLennan.

MacLennan is very proud to have achieved the approval from the Royal Institute of British Architects which goes to show they appreciate the expert opinion of an independent waterproofing specialist.   Our CPD covers all aspects of waterproofing design and installation, including different types of waterproofing, legal precedence affecting the design, failed systems, remedial options and most importantly – how to avoid pitfalls and protect your client. When it comes to waterproofing, there is much more to consider than purely the materials you choose. We are an independent firm who insist there should be no split liability when it comes to waterproofing.   Our CPD diary is booked up for September, we are open for bookings from October. Work progressing nicely at Bankside Yards West – a large commercial project we are working on. This incredible new tower is located along the South Bank of the Thames. The project reinvigorates a large and under-utilised site between Blackfriars Bridge and the Tate Modern museum, replacing two divisive blocks on either side of the mainline railway running north-south through London. The residential-led development combines housing along with offices, cultural and retail space as well as leisure amenities. MacLennan are waterproofing two basement levels of the Bankside Yard West tower. The design of a commercial basement, like with all basements, is critical and can be more challenging because of the mixed-use and often over several levels. Involving a specialist waterproofing company at the design stage for such (and any new builds) is critical.

We respect every property we work at as a lot of them are people’s homes or livelihoods and we never forget that. Our regular reports and communication between the site team and the management are there to make sure everyone gets the support they need at all times. Reports like this from the site gives us the reassurance time and time again – we have the best team working for us.
